The Great Barrier Reef Food Web And Eating Patterns
This is the basic food web forming the enriched ecosystem, residing in the great barrier reef:
Producers: sea sponges, algae, sea grass.
1st order consumers: parrot fish, trigger fish, clownfish, barrumundi, surgeon fish.
2nd order consumers: Sharks
Decomposers: crustaeceans and crabs.
This food web is a very basic model of the eating patterns of the most abundant species of the reef, e.g. coral, surgeon fish, etc. It would be impossible to graph the thousands of species into one food web, there is just to much diversity. e.g spanish dancer, dolphins etc. For more reef wildlife visit the marine wild life section.
